Artifact 7 - Who is the better driver? AI vs. Human

Context and Conditions
This artifact, called Who is the Better Driver? AI vs Human, was created in EDET 603. This artifact was created during the middle of my Learning Design and Technologies program at the University of South Carolina. In EDET 603, we were placed in groups and asked to design and develop multimedia projects on Google Sites about simulation drivers and compare them to human driving. Looking back at this artifact, I did have a novice level of understanding of skills such as web design, implementing Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, and the ADDIE model into our final product.
Scope
The purpose of this project was to create an integrated multimedia project (IMP) for videos (podcast and vodcast), a marketing poster, images, graphic art, and a website (we used Google Sites). This project 603 was created in EDET as part of our final project, and it was made by us. I do not believe this project could fit in with a larger curriculum unless the curriculum or unit is about AI or cars. Due to my partners being computer science majors, I brought the majority of the skills to this project in the sense of designing and presenting instructional material. When creating the podcast and vodcast, I had the background of writing transcripts, recording, and editing videos. Additionally, I came into a background with understanding Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory and the ADDIE model. My partners had a good understanding of game design and website design, which helped when developing our Google Sites.
Role
I worked in a group of three for this project during EDET 306. They were both computer science students with an emphasis on game design (both have now graduated). In this project, I was the project manager and the instructional designer. I focused on implementing the ADDIE model into the project. My peers were helpful when it came to helping with research, recordings, and helping put the website together. While there was no subject matter experts used in this project due to the time constraints of this project, we were able to learn a lot from a researcher who works in the Oracle Red Bull Racing team for Formula One who focuses on providing the latest top-tier racing simulation to best support the racers.
Instructional Design
This artifact aligns with the ADDIE model by emphasizing the design and development phase. For the design phase, we focused on establishing instructional goals for the learners to achieve throughout our website. Furthermore, the learning objectives allowed us to guide the multimedia selection that would best support the learner while experiencing our website and creating an in-depth understanding of how AI performs against humans. From the design phase, we were able to take the blueprints that we created and implement them into the development phase. During the development phase, we were able to create a fully integrated multimedia project using Google Sites. During this phase, we were able to develop a vodcast, a podcast, a graphic art, a website, and create a institutive navigation system to support the learner.
This artifact aligns with Morrison, Ross, and Kemp’s (MRK) instructional design model by focusing on the instructional strategies, delivery systems, and message design. By focusing on these elements from the MRK model, my group and I were able to ensure that the information was clear, concise, and engaging when learning the difference in artificial intelligence versus humans’ ability when it came to driving.
Since this assignment was focused on an integrated multimedia project, the instructional design model that was heavily focused on was Mayer’s multimedia learning principles. By following the principles of this theory, we were able to use our images, videos, and blog to support the learner to create a deeper understanding by using the dual memory channel, which claims that the brain has two channels to comprehend both visuals and auditory support.

Reflection
For this artifact, there were a lot of challenges that I ran into when developing it. For starters, my peers had a greater understanding of the driving simulator than I do which made it difficult when researching how AI compares to the human reaction in driving. Additionally, I ran into an issue where one of the students decided not to help halfway through the creation of the final product, which increased the stress for my partner, but that is okay.
When looking back at this artifact, I would focus on implementing accessibility and UDL, especially since there was several multimedia selections used in this artifact but are probably not usable to all learners. Additionally, since this artifact is focused on a specific niche that most people know about, focusing on implementing cognitivism into the website can improve the learner’s experience when processing the material that was being presented to them about AI versus humans’ ability to drive.
This artifact aligns with AECT 2012 standard four because the group and I were asked to design and develop an integrated multimedia project that uses variety of media selections to enhance the learning experience for the learners.
